Can you guess which stars turned down these famous film roles?

Superman, James Bond, Gravity and more hugely successful films could have had a different name on the poster. See if you can guess which famous faces gave these iconic roles a miss...

When it comes to iconic movie roles it's hard to imagine anyone else playing the part.
Could anyone else have got Gandalf just right? Could another actor have yelled 'Show me the money' quite the same way and could anyway else have carried off Neo in The Matrix?

Well, here's some actors and actresses that had the chance to take on these famous roles, but turned them down. But can you guess who?

Can you guess which stars turned down these famous film roles?
Big-name stars have passed on films including Superman, Jerry Maguire, James Bond and Gravity, but can you guess who?

ROSA HOSKINS SHARES 11 LESSONS FROM HER DAD, BOB HOSKINS

Rosa Hoskins shares 11 Lessons from her dad, Bob Hoskins

Rosa Hoskins @HauteHoskins
The loss of my dad has broken my heart, but these are the words I'll keep close to me forever http://bit.ly/1rO72Vm
ROSA HOSKINS: 11 LESSONS FROM MY DAD
...
My darling Dad has died. I loved him to the ends of the earth and he loved me back just the same. These are the lessons he taught me, I will keep them close to my heart and remind myself of them whenever I stumble or falter. They are his words; the words spoke so often to encourage, comfort and reassure. This isn’t general wisdom, rather advice that he tailor made just for me. I love you Dad.
1) Laugh. There’s humour to be found everywhere, even your darkest days there’s something to have a joke about. Laugh long and loud and make other people laugh. It’s good for you.

2) Be yourself. If someone doesn’t like you they’re either stupid , blind, or they’ve got bad taste. Accept who you are, you’ve got no one else to be. Don’t try to change yourself, there’s no point. Don’t apologise. Don’t make excuses. Be yourself and if anyone else doesn’t like it they can f*ck off.

3) Be flamboyant, it’s who you are and always have been. Be eccentric and unique. Don’t try to adapt yourself to someone else’s view of normal. That belongs to them, not you. Like yourself as who you are.

4) Don’t worry about other people’s opinions. Everyone’s a critic, but ultimately what they say only matters if you let it. Don’t believe your own press. People can just as easily sing your praises as they can tear you down. Don’t waste your time on things you can’t change. Let it slide off you like water off a duck’s back.

5) Get angry, it’s ok to lose your temper now and then. If anger stays in, it turns to poison and makes you bitter and sad. Get angry, say your peace, then let it go.

6) Whatever you do, always give it a good go. Don’t be afraid of failure and disappointment. If you fall flat on your face then get straight back up. You’ll always regret not trying. Disappointment is temporary, regret is forever.

7) Be generous and kind because you can’t take it with you. When you’ve got something to give, give it without hesitation.

8) Appreciate beauty, take pictures and make memories. Capture it, you never know when it’ll be gone.

9) Don’t take yourself too seriously. People who take themselves too seriously are boring.

10) Never, ever, ever, ever give up. Keep on punching no matter what your up against. You’re only defeated if you give up, so don’t give up.

11) Love with all your heart. In the end, love is the only thing that matters.

THE JUSTICE LEAGUE MOVIE GETS THE GO AHEAD TO FOLLOW BATMAN VS SUPERMAN

Zack Snyder to Direct ‘Justice League’ Movie

Warner Bros. is lining up a super-slate for the next few years, as it has set a “Justice League” movie to follow the Batman-Superman movie, the studio has confirmed.

WB has locked in Zack Snyder to direct, the helmer of “Man of Steel” and its sequel, which goes into production next month. The script for the third pic in the series is currently in development.
“Justice League” currently has no release date, though the Batman-Superman film is set for May 6, 2016.

Like Disney’s “The Avengers,” which brings together some of Marvel’s most popular heroes, “Justice League” culls the biggest superheroes from the DC universe. Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are staples of the Justice League.

Henry Cavill will reprise his role as Superman in the Batman-Superman pic, with Ben Affleck as Batman and Gal Gadot tapped to play Wonder Woman.

GEORGE CLOONEY IS ENGAGED TO AMAL ALAMUDDIN

George Clooney reportedly engaged to humanitarian lawyer Amal Alamuddin

ETERNAL bachelor George Clooney could finally be settling down — the actor is engaged to beautiful lawyer Amal Alamuddin.

Clooney has proposed to humanitarian lawyer Alamuddin after dating the British beauty for less than a year, sources told the New York Post’s Page Six.

Alamuddin, 36, was spotted showing off an engagement ring as she and Clooney, 52, dined at Nobu in Malibu on Thursday night with Cindy Crawford and husband Rande Gerber.
A source told Page Six, “George and Amal hoped keep the engagement quiet, but they can’t hide the fact that they are very happy.”

When contacted on Friday night by Page Six, Clooney’s rep Stan Rosenfield didn’t confirm or deny the engagement, simply telling us, “I do not comment on his personal life.”

While actor and Syria activist Clooney has in the past dated models, waitresses and most recently wrestler Stacy Keibler, he appears to have met his match in accomplished Alamuddin.
She studied at Oxford and the New York University School of Law, speaks three languages — French, Arabic and English — and has represented Wikileaks founder Julian Assange in his extradition proceedings with Sweden and is now an adviser to former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, the special envoy to Syria.

After they were spotted leaving a dinner together in London in November 2013, Clooney initially denied he was dating Alamuddin, saying they were working together on a satellite program for Syria. But in February he took her to a screening of his movie Monuments Men at the White House, along with his parents, Nick and Nina Clooney.

Then in March, Clooney and Alamuddin were pictured looking romantic together on a luxury safari vacation watching wildlife in Tanzania, before heading to the Seychelles.

Clooney, who was married to actress Talia Balsam from 1989 to 1993, told Esquire in December that he wasn’t suited to marriage. He said, “I haven’t had aspirations in that way, ever. I was married in 1989. I wasn’t very good at it ... I was quoted as saying I’ll never get married again pretty much right after I got divorced and then I’ve never talked about it since.”

He added that while some people think it is strange he does not have children, he is not in a rush to start a family. He said: “Should I go, ‘I got to get me some kids right now!’ and rush out and impregnate someone? Look, what I do know is that I was raised in a loving, happy family. I don’t have any dislike or distrust of that.”

CHRIS MARTIN SPEAKS OUT ABOUT GWYNETH PALTROW FOR THE FIRST TIME

Chris Martin speaks out about Gwyneth Paltrow for the first time

http://www.heatworld.com/Celeb-News/2014/04/Chris-Martin-speaks-out-about-Gwyneth-Paltrow-for-the-first-time-and-its-EXPLOSIVE-ly-fine/

Notorious king of controversy Chris Martin who loves talking about his private life and opening up to the media about relationship problems gave a radio interview where he discusses the end of his marriage to Gwyneth Paltrow.

In the teaser trailer for the interview, which will focus on his music rather than Gwyneth (obviously), he came out with some serious clangers and some epic juicy goss including: 'Everyone in their life goes through challenges. Whether it's love or money or kids or illness,' and 'There have been a lot of false headlines recently but this would be a real one.'

Whoa Chris, you need to learn how to be more respectful of your ten year union with a partner you loved and stop shooting your mouth off left right and centre! Screw your head on more because right now we're pretty worried about you!

Of course this is heavy sarcasm - say what you will about Gwyneth and Chris, but you can't deny they've both dealt with, or are dealing with, their marital split in a  pretty exemplary way. No tell-alls, no take-downs, no Twitter fight and certainly no chatting to radio DJs about the ins and outs of their personal decisions. Yep the 'conscious uncoupling' thing is a bit cringe, but if all conscious uncouplings cause this amount of admirable maturity then maybe more celebs should be at it.
Yes, we're looking at you [insert name of 90% of celebrities who have gone through bitter divorces]

Chris's parents weighed in on the split recently, and just confirmed what everyone's been presuming - that they're friends, it's been hard, but ultimately OK. His dad, Anthony Martin said: ''It is sad and upsetting but they are still great mates. If you are married you know you have good days and bad days. But it is all very amicable between them."

STEVEN SPIELBERG TO DIRECT ROALD DAHL'S THE BFG

Steven Spielberg to Direct Roald Dahl’s ‘The BFG,’ Will Shoot Tom Hanks Thriller First

Steven Spielberg will direct an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s novel “The BFG.”
The story follows a little girl who leads a big, friendly giant and the Queen of England on a journey to stop the fiercer man-eating giants from gobbling children.

DreamWorks acquired rights in 2010, and Melissa Mathison, who last teamed with Spielberg on “E.T.,” will pen the script. Frank Marshall will produce, with Michael Siegel and John Madden on board as executive producers. Madden was originally set to direct “The BFG” but is instead focusing on the sequel to “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.”

Spielberg will begin production in first quarter of 2015, with a planned 2016 release.

“’The BFG’ has enchanted families and their children for more than three decades. We are honored that the Roald Dahl estate has entrusted us with this classic story,” said Spielberg in a statement.
However, the busy helmer is likely to first direct the untitled Tom Hanks thriller for DreamWorks in September, with Tom Hanks starring in the true story of an American attorney enlisted by the CIA during the Cold War.

THE FUTURE OF STAR WARS - EXPANDED UNIVERSE

Lucasfilm and Disney have given “Star Wars” fans official insight into where they plan to take the sci-fi saga.

While George Lucas had built a world around “Star Wars” through movies, TV shows, comicbooks, novels, videogames and other forms of entertainment, storylines were developed by separate teams creating what’s been called an “Expanded Universe” that veered away from what was seen onscreen by audiences.

As a result of the plethora of “Star Wars”-related characters, creatures, spaceships and worlds created for those properties, Lucasfilm has formed a new story group to oversee all “Stars Wars” creative development, according to Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, that will connect all aspects of storytelling moving forward.

Onscreen, the first new canonical material to appear will be the animated series “Star Wars Rebels” (see a clip presented at WonderCon below), followed by the J.J. Abrams-directed “Star Wars: Episode VII,” set for release on Dec. 18, 2015.

In print, the first new books to come from the group include novels from Del Rey Books, such as the John Jackson Miller-penned “Star Wars: A New Dawn,” set before the events of “Star Wars Rebels” and offering insight into the backstories of key characters Kanan Jarrus and Hera Syndulla, with input directly from executive producers Dave Filoni, Simon Kinberg and Greg Weisman.

“A New Dawn” will be published in hardcover and as an e-book on Sept. 2, followed by “Star Wars: Tarkin,” by James Luceno, on Nov. 4; “Star Wars: Heir to the Jedi,” in January, by author Kevin Hearne; and “Star Wars: Lords of the Sith,” by Paul Kemp, in March.

Lucas may have enabled other people to play in the world of the “Star Wars” Expanded Universe, but “he set the films he created as the canon,” Lucasfilm posted on the StarWars.com site Friday. “This includes the six ‘Star Wars’ episodes, and the many hours of content he developed and produced in ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars.’ These stories are the immovable objects of ‘Star Wars’ history, the characters and events to which all other tales must align.”

“We have an unprecedented slate of new ‘Star Wars’ entertainment on the horizon,” Kennedy said in a statement. “We’re set to bring ‘Star Wars’ back to the bigscreen, and continue the adventure through games, books, comics, and new formats that are just emerging. This future of interconnected storytelling will allow fans to explore this galaxy in deeper ways than ever before.”
That includes the launch of a new “Star Wars: Legends” banner that will keep tales from the Expanded Universe in print.

Lucasfilm added that elements from the Expanded Universe, like the Inquisitor, the Imperial Security Bureau and Sienar Fleet Systems created in role-playing games of the 1980s, are story elements in “Star Wars Rebels.”

MAN OF STEEL 2 FINDS IT'S CYBORG - RAY FISHER HAS BEEN CAST AS CYBORG 'VICTOR STONE'

'Man Of Steel' Sequel Finds Its Cyborg

Warner Bros. and DC Comics tap theater actor Ray Fisher for coveted role.

The "Man of Steel" sequel just took another major step toward setting up an eventual Justice League of America film.

According to Variety, Ray Fisher, a noted theater actor, has been tapped for the role of Victor Stone or Cyborg, the half-man, half-machine superhero who started off as a member of the Teen Titans before graduating to the JLA.

Warner Bros. and DC Comics conducted screen tests over the past couple of weeks before landing on Fisher, who is most widely known for playing Muhammad Ali in the Broadway play "Fetch Clay, Make Man" and for his recent testing for J.J. Abrams' upcoming "Star Wars: Episode VII."

While Cyborg's role will be small, he'll become a more significant character as the studio develops more films for the Justice League universe. Cyborg's casting may be also be a sign that DC Comics paid attention to the successful integration of The Falcon, another African-American superhero, to Marvel's recent blockbuster, Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier.

"I think he would create an incredible bridge between superheroes and humanity," Cavill said of the Cyborg character in bonus feature on the recent "Man of Steel" home video release.

Fisher joins a cast that already includes Henry Cavill (Superman), Ben Affleck (Batman), Jesse Eisenberg (Lex Luthor), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) and Amy Adams (Lois Lane).

Zack Snyder is returning as director for the production, which is currently already under way in Michigan.

LINDSAY LOHAN'S INFAMOUS LIST AND THAT EXCRUCIATING ALAN CARR INTERVIEW

Poor Alan Carr. He books an exclusive chat with Lindsay Lohan and the results are as terrible as her 2010 appearance on his Chatty Man show.

Asked about her sex list, on which she named an impressive number of celebrities she had slept with, Lindsay, 27, said: "I am not discussing this. That's not funny."

When asked when she last had a drink, she stuttered: "I don't know."

She then refused to show Alan how to pole dance when they brought a pole on especially.

Alan removed all booze from his globe and replaced his usual collection of spirits with Um Bongo and Capri-Sun.

When he tried to lighten the mood by showing her Instagram photos, she moaned: "This is getting awkward.

"You are going to have a programme just on selfies now."

How excruciating. And in the spirit of tough watches, here are a whole bunch more of awkward chat show moments.

JESSICA CHASTAIN TO PLAY MARILYN MONROE ON NEW BIOPIC

Going Blonde: Jessica Chastain to play Marilyn Monroe in new film biopic produced by Brad Pitt

Jessica Chastain is being lined up to play Marilyn Monroe in a new film biopic.
The 37-year-old red-headed actress is 'nearing a deal' to play the icon in a new adaptation of the 2000 historical novel Blonde by Joyce Carol Oates, according to The Wrap
The project will be produced by Brad Pitt's production company Plan B, with the actor reported by a source to have been 'instrumental in convincing [Jessica] to tackle the challenging role of Marilyn Monroe.'

Pitt and Chastain co-starred in Terrence Malik's 2011 film The Tree Of Life.
Andrew Dominik, who directed Pitt in filmsThe Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford and Killing Them Softly, will helm the film from his own script.
'My heart belongs to Marilyn,' Dominik told IndieWire when quizzed about the project back in 2012. 'It's a really sprawling, emotional nightmare fairy-tale type movie, and I really want to do it real bad.
'It's a story about an abandoned orphan who gets lost in the woods.'

A Pulitzer Prize finalist, Blonde is a re-imagining of the life of Marilyn Monroe in novel form, with Oates drawing on biographical and historical sources for her portrait of the fragile icon who was born Norma Jean Mortenson.

Despite being a natural redhead, Chastain appeared as a blonde for 2011 film The Help which won her a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination.
Chastain's portrayal comes three years after Michelle Williams took on the role of the superstar in My Week With Marilyn which explored the troubled production of The Price And The Showgirl.
Madonna also played a version of Marilyn in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes in her 1984 Material Girl video.
However, The Wrap report that Chastain's portrayal is expected to be 'much different' with Blonde taking 'an unconventional approach to examining the Hollywood starlet's life and career.'

Blonde is slated to begin filming in August with a 2015 release date in mind.
Chastain has been particularly busy of late - she will star in a number of movies this year including Christopher Nolan sci-fi mystery Interstellar alongside Anne Hathaway and Matthew McConaughey and Miss Julie - based on the 1888 play - with Samantha Morton and Colin Farrell.

She is currently filming Guillermo del Toro's horror film Crimson Peake.

The ride was created by WED Enterprises and debuted at the New York World’s Fair in 1964. It was rebuilt after the fair, installed in Disneyland and now operates as a boat ride in five Disney parks.
“It’s a Small World” features over 300 audio-animatronic dolls from all over the world singing the upbeat title song, which promotes peace and understanding. The song was written by Disney’s staff songwriters Robert S. Sherman and Richard B. Sherman after  Walt Disney had told the brothers to craft a tune that could be easily translated into multiple languages.

Turteltaub recently directed “Last Vegas” for CBS Films and the two “National Treasure” movies for Disney. Stern’s credits include “The Watch” and “The Internship”; he’s also working with Lin as a writer on the “Lego” sequel.

Stern is repped by WME, managers Marc Provissiero and Helena Heyman and attorney Karl Austen. Turteltaub is repped by WME, managed by David Lonner at Oasis and attorney Steve Warren.
