The biggest Music Stars in the world join Jay Z's music streaming service to rival SPOTIFY!

Jay Z promotes 'artist-owned' music streaming brand

Some of the biggest names in entertainment have re-launched the music subscription service Tidal, which they are billing as the first artist-owned platform for music and video.
At an event in New York on Monday, Madonna, Beyonce, Kanye West, and 13 other performers announced they had become co-owners of Tidal.
The service launched last October, but was recently bought by rapper Jay Z.
It is hoping to compete with the likes of Spotify, Deezer and Google Play.
However Tidal offers 25 million music tracks, fewer than the 30 million offered by many rival services.
As well as a standard subscription for $9.99 a month, Tidal offers a "high fidelity" option for $19.99, which claims to deliver better sound quality.

Singer Alicia Keys spoke on behalf of the artists as they all lined up on stage at Skylight at Moynihan Station in Manhattan.
Describing the event as a "graduation", she said the artists hoped Tidal would alter musical evolution.
"So we come together before you on this day, March 30th, 2015, with one voice in unity in the hopes that today will be another one of those moments in time, a moment that will forever change the course of music history."
Their mission, she said, goes beyond commerce and technology.
"Our intent is to preserve music's importance in our lives,'' she said.
Notably, the majority of the company will be owned by artists, a symbolic move in a business where musicians often have little control over how their work is distributed and consumed.
Jay Z's strategy will include encouraging artists to lobby their labels to give Tidal new music a week in advance of other services, giving it a short window of exclusivity.
He told Billboard: "We didn't like the direction music was going and thought maybe we could get in and strike an honest blow.
"Will artists make more money? Even if it means less profit for our bottom line, absolutely. That's easy for us. We can do that. Less profit for our bottom line, more money for the artist; fantastic."

WHAT IT WILL COST

The membership-based service - similar to subscription service Spotify - will provide music and exclusive video content that users can stream on computers, tablets and smartphones or listen to offline.
Unlike Spotify there isn't a free service.
It is being offered to U.S. users at two price points: about $9.95 for standard sound quality and $19.99 for 'lossless high fidelity sound quality.'
Tidal streams at 1,411 kilobytes per second - well above the 320 for premium subscribers of Spotify, which offers lower levels for free users.

John Travolta, Kevin Spacey wow Crowd at International Indian Film Academy Awards
The “Bollywood Oscars” were held in the United States for the first time Saturday.
The Indian film industry’s top award show sailed into Tampa
Saturday with a pirate-themed opening musical number and celebrities ranging from “Slumdog Millionaire” star Anil Kapoor to John Travolta and Kevin Spacey. Before a crowd of some 20,000, the International Indian Film Academy awards started with the entrance of actors aboard a float built like a pirate ship — a nod to Tampa’s love of pirate-themed parties. The show informally known as the “Bollywood Oscars” are being held in the United States for the first time. The show was recorded and will be broadcast in June. IIFA says some 800 million people worldwide are expected to watch the event.
Co-hosts Shahid Kapoor and Farhan Akhtar, dressed in swashbuckling outfits, demanded the key to Tampa from Mayor Bob Buckhorn, who was sitting in the front row at the city’s NFL stadium.
But it was Travolta that made the crowd come to life. Indian star Priyanka Chopra pulled him onstage and Travolta did some signature moves from his1994 blockbuster film “Pulp Fiction.”
Later, actor Hrithik Roshan presented Travolta with an award for Outstanding Achievement in International Cinema, declaring the two-time Golden Globe winner “the coolest of them all.”
“I’m honored. I’m humbled,” Travolta said.

Hindi films are very original, full of life: John Trovolta
IANS | Tampa Bay (Florida) April 27, 2014 Last Updated at 01:04 IST
American actor John Travolta Friday said he is a big fan of Hindi films and feels they are “very original and full of life”.
“I liked ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ which wasn’t a bollywood film but somewhat reflects India. I recently saw ‘Ram Leela’… I find Hindi films very original and full of life, they capture your attention and have universal themes, so yes I am a big fan of Hindi films,” Travolta said at the International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) 2014 here. He said that Bollywood’s influence was felt more widely and that musicals in Hollywood were rare.
“Anil Kapoor and Aamir Khan are among few actors I’ve interacted with. I think Bollywood actors have an amazing script sense. I’m confident that they can help develop the connection between the two industries,” he added.
“I think Bollywood has no inhibitions and that reflets in their movies. It’ll be great to watch the same in Hollywood films.
“The video ‘Exotic’ was beautiful. Priyanka and Pitbull were amazing and that exemplified what should be. I’ve always felt acting, song and dance should go in sync. I’ve always been more satisfied doing both. I wish people get more excited about musicals.”
When asked whom would he like to work with in Bollywood, he said, “I liked the girl in ‘Ram Leela’. She is amazing. She is great… I’ve also watched ’3 Idiots’, ‘Lagaan’ and ‘Krishh’.”
Explaining the difference between award ceremonies in the West and in India, he said: “I think an award like IIFA has a lot of credibility. In the West we have several award ceremonies, and each claims to be bigger than the other. But this ceremony of Bollywood is recognized internationally. I’m happy to be a part of the grand celebration this year and hope we continue to build good connections and keep making good movies.” The 15th Videocon D2H IIFA Weekend kicked off in Tampa Bay, Florida April 23. The event will come to an end Friday evening.
IIFA notes: John Travolta says Hollywood could learn from Bollywood, especially the dancing
TAMPA — From Saturday Night Fever to Grease to Pulp Fiction,
John Travolta has danced in more than his share of iconic moments in American cinema.
So, it’s no surprise he’s a fan of Bollywood’s knack for filling the screen with splashy, high-stepping show tunes. Take, for example, Bollywood’s 2013 update of Romeo and Juliet, Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela, often shorthanded as Ram-Leela.
“The first musical number, it was, wow, that was amazing,”Travolta told a downtown Tampa hotel ballroom crowded with international media Saturday. “I find Indian films very original in energy and life.”
And the American cinema could learn something from Bollywood, he said.
“Every time I’ve had an opportunity to sing or dance in a movie, it’s been glorious … I think we’re simpatico,” said Travolta, who received a career achievement award at the 15th annual
International Indian Film Academy awards show at Raymond
James Stadium.
“I’ve always felt that acting with song and dance (is) … a more complete communication,” he said. For him, the collaboration between Bollywood’s Priyanka Chopra and Miami rapper Pitbull on the video for Exotic was the “perfect marriage.”
“I would love for the Bollywood influence to actually infiltrate and give Hollywood more confidence in musicals and dance,” Travolta said. “Musicals in Hollywood are sporadic.” Travolta said he’s been offered and is considering a script for a Bollywood movie, Paani, director Shekhar Kapur’s years-in-the making film about a 2050 dystopia where corporations control the source of water. “He’s asked me to be part of it. I would like to be part of it,” Travolta said. Asked if he would dance in it, he said, “I don’t know. The script does not have (dancing) in it, although (Kapur) said, ‘Should we put in a musical number?’ If we’re being truly Bollywood, maybe we should.”

We're not sure if this is a viral stunt or if production is already underway on Zoolander 2, but over in Paris, during Fashion Week, Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson just popped up at the end of the Valentino show. Images and videos started pouring out straight from the event on social media, showing Zoolander and Hansel all dressed up and strutting down the catwalk. This just gets me infinitely more excited to see this sequel, which will be about 15 years old when all is said and done. Will Ferrell is supposed to be back as Mugatu, and we can't wait to see what these male models have been doing for over a decade now. Look
