Uggie the dog, who warmed hearts worldwide for his starring role in the 2011 Oscar-winning filmThe Artist, has reportedly died. He was 13.
The Jack Rusell terrier was put down Aug. 7 in Los Angeles after battling a prostate tumor,according to TMZ.
Uggie garnered global fame for starring as "The Dog" in writer-director Michel HazanaviciusThe Artist, which won five 2012 Academy Awards including best picture.
According to his IMDb biography, Uggie was saved from being sent to the pound by animal trainer Omar Von Muller.
He scored a Palm Dog award at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival for The Artist and also appeared in 2011's Water for Elephants, starring Reese WitherspoonChristoph Waltz and Robert Pattinson.Uggie is the first dog to leave his paw prints on the cement outside Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, which he was honored with for his Artist performance.
Von Muller did not immediately respond to The Hollywood Reporter's request for comment.
