Met Gala 2017 best dressed: Celebrities show off their most extreme looks at fashion's Oscars

Met Gala 2017 best dressed: Celebrities show off their most extreme looks at fashion's Oscars

The Oscars of the Fashion World saw an array of superstar guests parading their boldest and most bizarre outfits

The most exclusive event in the fashion calendar has finally arrived.
Some of the biggest names in showbiz sashayed down the red carpet at this year's Met Gala, formally known as the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit.

Vogue editor-in-chief honcho Anna Wintour was one of the first to arrive at the glamorous annual event.

Dressed in a gold and glittering Chanel ensemble with feathers running around the skirt, the gala chair dazzled as she posed for pictures.
While Gisele Bundchen and husband Tom Brady made the picture perfect couple as they shared a kiss in front of the cameras.

The supermodel, 36, looked nothing short of stunning in a slinky backless silver Stella McCartney gown, while her handsome other half colour coordinated in a dark grey tuxedo.
But it was Katy Perry who made sure she had all eyes firmly fixed her way. The Roar singer opted for a bold and outright bizarre bright red Galliano frock.
As predicted, Twitter went crazy over her unusual look with some loving the unique outfit and others not entirely sure.

"Miss Katy Perry just won the MetGala," wrote one fan.
"MetGala what does katy perry look like? I mean come on...i do like her but what was she thinking...." said another. "This is art," added a third.

“Katy Perry is giving off some serious Lady Darth Maul vibes... MetGala," joked a fourth.
After Katy Perry set the tone in her VERY extravagant ensemble, Nicki Minaj rocked the red carpet in an equally striking ensemble.

The singer was channelling serious superhero vibes in her custom-made H&M gown, which featured a fitted bodysuit and stunning train in eye-catching red and black.
The 34-year-old kept the rest of her look simple, with sleek locks and a perfect red pout.

Meanwhile, Kendall Jenner proved exactly why she’s one of the most sought after models in the world in a daring La Perla design.
Not many people could pull off the sexy, sheer chainmail look, but the reality TV star nailed it.

The barely-there dress, which she teamed with a pair of black Louboutin heels, featured a slashed middle which revealed her enviably toned tummy and a hint of cleavage, while the skirt featured a huge slit down one side.

The model left little to the imagination as she flashed her bare rear to cameras as she posed on the red carpet from all angles.

Jaden Smith turned up to the annual fashion extravaganza carrying his chopped off dreadlocks in one hand.

If that wasn't bold enough, Will and Jada's offspring was also sporting a grill.
The 18-year-old has has never been one to air on the side of caution when it comes to fashion, but the rest of his look was actually quite laid back.

Kylie Jenner also pulled out all the stops in a striking see-through Versace dress.
Kylie, 19, looked sensational in the nude, embroidered Versace gown which she paired with simple nude heels and a new sleek, platinum bob.
The teenager walked the red carpet with designer Donatella Versace, whose gold one-shoulder down and eye-popping neon yellow hair also turned heads.

But Kim herself decided to play it safe at this year’s A-List bash.
Rather than flashing her flesh in scantily-clad designs or going all out in an ornate ensemble like last year, the reality queen went for a very understated outfit.
Kim, who flew solo while Kanye West remained in Los Angeles to look after their kids, looked fresh and angelic in the off the shoulder white dress.
She was sporting a super sleek bob, kept her make-up minimal and went accessory-free.

Every year there’s a different theme. Previous years’ themes have included Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age of Technology and China: Through The Looking Glass.

This year's theme is centred around Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo, founder of Comme des Garçons and it's only the second time that the focus has been on a living designer - after 1983's Yves Saint Laurent event.

WEIRD AL YANKOVIC GETS ' TACKY ' WITH PHARRELL'S HAPPY

Weird Al Yankovic gets ‘Tacky’ with Pharrell’s ‘Happy’
Courtesy of Nerdist - By

VIDEO HERE  http://www.nerdist.com/vepisode/weird-al-yankovic-gets-tacky-with-pharrells-happy/
Featuring guest appearances from comedians Aisha Tyler, Margaret Cho, Eric Stonestreet, Kristen Schaal and Jack Black, the video was shot on location at the historic Palace Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles, the same space that was used as Julianne Moore’s apartment in The Big Lebowski.
“We’re going to have some fun today!” Al told us before shooting began. “Thank you, Pharrell; I really appreciate it–you’re a cool guy,” he said as he cracked that famously wide smile.
Throughout the video we are treated to a wonderful deluge of clashing colors, socks-and-sandals, Jack Black’s backwards sequin fanny pack, and dance moves that resemble a fit of ataxia. Every aspect of the video is so tastefully tasteless, that we’re pretty sure tackiness will be the look of the summer.
As thrilled as we are about how big the music video for “Tacky” is, the rest of Weird Al’s album is full of exceedingly catchy parodies that we’re also ecstatic to blast on repeat all summer long. ”I am very proud of it” Al said confidently. “I think its my best album to date.”
We think so too. Our own Chris Hardwick couldn’t contain his joy at working with Al, “Al has ALWAYS been one of my idols. If you had told teenage me that I would one day not only be friends with him but also get to produce a video for him, my young brain wouldn’t have been able to process it. I have watched “Tacky” dozens of times and I can’t stop singing it. I LOVE YOU AL.”
Now all we need is a 24 hour version of “Tacky” so Weird Al can go on a crusade of faux pas around the world.
Head over to weirdal.com now to preorder your copy of Mandatory Fun. Then keep up with #8videos8days all week for more Weird Al greatness.

PHARELL WILLIAMS CRIES DURING INTERVIEW WITH OPRAH

THE HAPPY STAR CRIED DURING AN INTERVIEW WITH OPRAH ON HER OWN NETWORK

‘Why am I crying on Oprah?’: Pharrell Williams cries tears of joy while watching glbal fans dance to Happy during interview

By Hanna Flint

He may have written the happiest song of the year, but Pharrell Williams was reduced to tears during his interview with Oprah Winfrey.
The Happy singer sat down with the talk show host for an upcoming episode of Oprah Prime on her OWN Network, and was moved by a video shown to him of people dancing to his chart-topping song.
‘Why am I crying on Oprah?’ Pharrell said through tears as he was overcome with emotion.‘It’s overwhelming because I love what I do and I just appreciate the fact that people have believed in me for so long that I could make it to this point, and feel, to feel that.’

With some encouraging words from Oprah, Pharrell, 41, was also shown some pictures from his childhood.
During the interview, Williams – wearing one of his many distinctive Vivienne Westwood hats - discussed his rise to fame, his song-writing process and the music that influenced him to become a seven-time Grammy winning recording artist and producer.

‘My best songs come from two different ways,’ he says. ‘Either when I have a really good gut feeling about something, it's written in the shower or on a plane.’
‘Shower's good, isn't it?’ Oprah says. ‘There's something about the water.’
‘The water attracts your ear,’ he says. ‘You get distracted, and your mind wanders.’
But for his Despicable Me 2 song, Pharrell called it a ‘crazy, half-court shot.’

‘It's not because you're that good,’ Williams says. ‘It's because you're out of ideas.'
The interview also saw Pharrell talk about his critically-acclaimed new album ‘G I R L’, and his wedding last year to model and designer Helen Lasichanh.

But over the weekend, he was in Indio, California to perform at Coachella 2014, where he reminded the audience of just how many hit songs he’s been behind.

P Coachella 1 by YardieGoalsHe brought out Nelly for Hot In Herre, Snoop Dogg for Drop It Like It’s Hot, Gwen Stefani for Hollaback Girl, and Busta Rhymes for Pass The Courvoisier.
Some of the tracks were produced by Williams and Chad Hugo who made up the record production duo The Neptunes.
But Pharrell wasn’t too happy with the dust and wind experienced at Coachella as he told the packed crowd, ‘I wanted this s*** to be so much hotter but the dust and this f***ing wind…,’ according to The Guardian.

THE OSCARS: 7 THINGS TO LOOK FORWARD TO AT THE OSCARS, 2nd MARCH 2014

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE 84TH ACADEMY AWARDS

NUMBER 1 – ELLEN DEGENERES HOSTING THE OSCARS FOR A 2ND TIME

Ellen Degeneres hilarious opening monologue

Everyone has been looking forward to America’s daytime chat show hostess and comedienne Ellen Degeneres hosting the Academy Awards again. She is quick with the wit, there is no toilet humour, and has no fear, A-Listers be aware. Ellen also has class, unlike Seth McFarlane, we will not be hearing any toilet humour from his side kick “Ted”…nor will there be a song and dance number called “We saw your boobs”….the female celebrities can breathe a sigh of relief!

Who can forget when Ellen asked Steven Spielberg to take a photo of her and Clint Eastwood for Myspace and gave Martin Scorsese a script for a follow up to Goodfellas and Big Momma’s House called “Good Mamas”.

My favourite joke was about how nominees get their nominations, as America did not vote for Jennifer Hudson on American Idol and America voted for Al Gore in the presidential elections, both LOST but won their respective Oscars on the night!

Judy Garland, Liza Minnelli, Joey Luft, Lorna Luft

Judy Garland receiving her juvenile Oscar for Wizard of Oz

NUMBER 2 – THE TRIBUTE TO THE WIZARD OF OZ

The Academy has confirmed that Judy Garland’s children, the legendary Liza Minnelli, Lorna Luft, and Joey Luft will pay tribute to their mum the epic that is the Wizard of Oz. I secretly hope that the last surviving Wizard of Oz Munchkin Jerry Maren, will make an appearance as a member of the Lollipop Guild. We are already humming the songs before the Oscars begin. We had also hoped Judy Garland’s best friend from the Golden Age of MGM, Mickey Rooney would host the tribute, but there has been no mention from Oscars HQ. It has been confirmed that movie star and blonde Bombshell Kim Novak will introduce the the tribute. Kim Novak became friends with Judy Garland and her then husband Sid Luft when they use to party and gamble with Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack in L.A and Las Vegas.

NUMBER 3 – THE RETURN OF THE DIVINE MISS BETTE MIDLER

Songstress  and actress Bette Midler has not been to the Oscars for many years, she was last seen on the Oscar stage presenting with the her co-stars from The First Wives Club in 1997. Old timers and the new generation will be re-introduced to the sumptuous vocal acrobatics of Miss Midler, who is known to bring magic to the stage.

Bette Midler at the 1997 Oscars

Shirley Temple receiving her Juvenile Oscar 1935
NUMBER 4 – IN MEMORIUM

Get the tissues ready in 2013 and early 2014, we lost some amazing actors and executives. The most memorable being, America’s little sweetheart Shirley Temple, who was the most famous child star of all time. At the age of 5, Shirley Temple single handedly saved Fox studios from bankruptcy. She later landed some good adult film roles but never quite made the transition into grown up movies. She moved to Television where she landed a storybook series. She retired from show business in 1950 and then pursued a successful career in public service as an Ambassador and head of protocol. The little girl that the world fell in love with will be sorely missed….we hope she is resting in peace on the Good Ship Lollipop with “Uncle Billy”, the legendary Billy Bojangles Robinson.

Some other memorable stars that passed away in the past season are movie stars Peter O’toole, Joan Fontaine, Paul Walker, Philip Seymor Hoffman, Corey Monteith, James Gandolfini, Richard Griffiths, Eleonor Parker, Esther Williams, James Avery, Deanna Durbin, Richard Briers, Jean Stapleton, Sid Caesar , Harold Ramis, Juanita Moore, Maximilian Schell , Alicia Rhett

NUMBER 5 – MANDELA TRIBUTE

Since Gandhi, there has never been a statesman and humanitarian that has been so globally respected, admired and written about. So it is a fitting tribute that the Academy Awards have chosen to remember the global statesman. Bono and U2 have been selected to perform at the Oscars as a tribute to the memory of Nelson Mandela.

NUMBER 5 – STEVE MCQUEEN AND 12 YEARS A SLAVE

The best Oscar moments are always when history is made, like when Kathryn Bigelow became the first woman director to win an Oscar and was given the Oscar by non less than Barbra Streisand! Tonite Oscar attendees might witness history in the making if Steve McQueen of Black British descent becomes the first black director to win an Oscar for 12 years a Slave. He has so far lost every time to Director Alfonso CuarĂłn (Gravity). However he has taken most of the “Best Film” and “ Best Producer” accolades during the award season. The predictions say that is so far a two man race for “best director” it could be Steve McQueen or Alfonso CuarĂłn, either of which will be a British win!

NUMBER 6 – AFRICAN NOMINATIONS AT THE OSCARS

We do love firsts. If either Lupita Nyong’o (Kenya) or Barkhad Abdi (Somalia) they will be become the first Africans to win an Oscar! Steve McQueen has called Lupita Nyong’o his muse and poured his admiration for how she carried the scenes. On the red carpet, Lupita has already made waves as a fashion icon. The likes of USA Vogue editor Anna Wintour and Victoria Beckham have been on the phone. She has already made the covers of various international magazines and possibly the envy of every supermodel alive. Lupita has a second movie out, “Non-Stop” starring Liam Neeson which grossed $10 million on its opening day, and was ranked #1. Barkhad Abdi has a BAFTA in the bag, although he lost most of the accolades to Jared Leto (The Dallas Buyer’s Club). Barkhadi is a novice having never studied acting, he was a limo driver and went to the casting call for Captain Phillips when they advertised for Somali citizens to play pirates. Good luck to both of them.

Pharrell performing "Happy" at the BRIT awards

NUMBER 7 –  THE PERFORMANCES

This year we have a treat as Oscars HQ have chosen 6 exquisite performances to cater to all tastes! We cannot wait for broadway legend and powerhouse Idina Menzel (Wicked, Glee) to perform “Let it Go” and Pharell’s feel good tune of the year “Happy”. I hope the Oscars have a 5 second delay as the rocktastic Pink will be in the house, we are hoping she will create some kind of controversy. Anything else would be boring from rocker Pink! Remember her half naked acrobatic act at the Grammy Awards?
