WE INTERVIEW RACHEL CHRISTIE, ATHLETE, FORMER MISS ENGLAND AND NIECE OF LEGENDARY OLYMPIAN LINFORD CHRISTIE

Are you looking forward to the London Olympics? Which is your favourite sport in the Olympics?

I'm really looking forward to London 2012 Olympics! Can't wait until it starts and I think its amazing its being held in my home town London.

My favourite sport has 2 be all the sprints and relays!

What is your favourite memory of any Olympics you have seen whether live or on TV?

My favourite moment 'has' to be watching Usain Bolt in the Beijing Olympics, he's a phenomenal athlete!

Did you get tickets to see any of the sports at the London 2012 Olympics or will you just be watching on TV?

I did have an opportunity to go to the games, but I wanted to watch from home! You have a better view watching sports on TV :)

Rachel Christie and Olympian Phillips Idowu

What are you your hopes for the UK and London as the hosts of the Olympics, including the organisers, Team GB, athletes, tourists, coverage etc ?
I'm hoping GB team do really well, there are going to be some tough competition but hope they bring back some medals.

How did you get your start as a track athlete?:
I started track when I was 11/12 years old, and just carried on growing/improving from then.
Was there any key moment when things came together for you as a track athlete?

In track and field you never know what the next day holds for you. You may be doing really well one minute and get an injury the next and have to start all over! I had a lot of injuries.

Rachel's uncle, legendary Olympic runner Linford Christie

Your uncle Linford Christie is a legend, who clinched the 1992 Olympic 100m title in Barcelona, and is the only Briton to win 100m gold medals at Olympic, World, Commonwealth and European Championships.
Do you remember witnessing some of those achievements? Was that what inspired you to become an athlete?

I always used to watch my Uncle running I loved it! The whole family used to watch and get really excited, from then on I wanted to run.

Training to be a top athlete requires a lot of discipline and sacrifice did you ever question yourself when you started?
When the training is hard (its always hard) you always ask yourself..why am I doing this to myself! But in the end its so worth it.

What do you do to motivate yourself when you don't feel like training or life throws you a few challenges?

I always remind myself why I want to do this sport and think about where it may get me, I think about being at an Olympics winning Gold :)

You got injured in 2011, did that discourage you or make you more determined to come back and become a better athlete?

It made me more determined to reach my goal! Even though the injury meant I was out of training for a very long time, I still have my goal that I will reach next time round. Nothing can stop me.

What do you think when you watch top athletes break world records a top athletic events such as the Commonwealth Games and Olympics?

I think..that should be me!

Who is your sporting hero? What do you admire about them?
I really admire JessicaEnnis, she's a brilliant young british athlete who does a sport that's even more hard work because she does seven events. She's an incredible athlete.
Also you got tolove Usain! So much charisma and personality, amazing sprinter and a showman too :) he's what athletics needs
.

Rachel becoming the 1st BLACK Miss England
What is your short term goal in athletics?

I just focus when I'm going to race, imagine myself winning. I have a routine with training and that's about it... ha ha!

What is your long term goal in athletics?
I just take things step by step.

What do you look for in a coach and or mentor?

I look for someone who watches my every move more or less, a strict one who pays a lot of attention to my training.

What advice would you give to anyone starting out in athletics?

Know what you are getting yourself into, because it’s a sport you have to be very dedicated to, even though you may not get to where you want to be.

Your are also a model, both careers require you to maintain a good body. Is there ever a conflict between what you are expected to do when training as an athlete and a look required as a model that might not want you to be too muscle like or too toned?

I used to worry when I was doing Miss England about being too toned! But now I'm don't care :) I'm with a sports agency WAthletics so my body has to be toned anyway which is perfect!

Finally tell us what is the beauty routine of the first black Miss England, model and athlete? Is there a beauty product you can't live without?

My beauty regime is just drink loads of water, eat and drink healthy! I cannot live without mascara! I love it..and also vaseline!
