"THE SEXY SOPRANO"

PRO PARTNER: Mark Ballas

In case you were wondering who the world's most prolific classical crossover artist is, look no further than Katherine Jenkins!

The Welsh Mezzo Soprano has sold in excess of seven million albums since launching her career in 2004. An internationally recognized figure, Katherine, at the age of only 31, has become an ambassador and inspiration for millions of people around the world.

When she was 23, Katherine signed what was said to be the biggest ever UK classical recording deal; she has broken records becoming the fastest selling mezzo soprano ever, has released eight studio albums, has won two Classical BRIT awards and broken countless records with her albums going platinum around the world. She has performed with Placido Domingo and Andrea Bocelli, had lunch with and performed for the Queen and other members of The Royal Family as well as Prime Ministers and dignitaries around the world.

Having recently worked with internationally renowned producers including David Foster and John Shanks, Katherine's unique and timeless vocals have defined the genre. Known for her interpretations of popular songs, operatic arias and hymns, Katherine is also known for her long-standing work with the British Forces Foundation for which she is a trustee and has consequently made various trips to Iraq and Afghanistan to entertain the troops. This support for the troops has led her to being referred to as the Forces Sweetheart.

Cherished as one of Britain's favorite singers, Katherine has become one of our greatest musical exports. Now she's adding Dancing with the Stars to her already impressive list of accomplishments.

Miss Terry Blue at Proud Camden Aug 2010

I first met the incredible band Miss Terry Blue when they performed at the Talent of London in August 2010 when they peformed to an incredible reception at legendry rock venue, Proud Camden in North London. I have since followed their career and my colleague Ereomala covered their EP release in August 2011. Click on link below

POP, SOUL, INDIE

Recently described as some of the “hottest talent in the country” and one of the most “promising up and coming acts in the capital”, ‘Miss Terry Blue’ are musicians from Germany, France, Italy, Russia and the UK who met in London – the capital of music in Europe.

The lead singer and songwriter Isabella from Germany was trained classically as an Opera singer before finding her way to contemporary music. She brought ‘Miss Terry Blue’ together in February 2010. Since then it has seen them to do many high profile gigs across the UK and some top London venues such as headlining their own shows at 02 Islington Academy through to London’s china whites night club. Miss Terry Blue are exciting and really special live.

Miss Terry Blue visited the Sporah Show studios in March and treated host Sporah to an acoustic set. See their trip in photos.

SAVING FACE DOCUMENTARY

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (All rights reserved and copyright to owners)

Saving Face is a 2011 documentary film about acid attacks on women. The film was directed by Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy and Daniel Junge. The film has been awarded the 2012 Academy Award for Best Documentary (Short Subject), making it director, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Pakistan's first Oscar winner.

SYNOPSIS

The film follows London-based Pakistani plastic surgeon, Dr. Mohammad Jawad, as he journeys to Pakistan to perform reconstructive surgery on survivors of acid violence.[6] Saving Face also broaches the subject of the under-reporting of acid violence due to cultural and structural inequalities towards women. The film also features two women attacked by acid and their struggle for justice and healing. The Acid Survivors Foundation of Pakistan, which is featured in the film, had documented over 100 acid attacks a year in Pakistan but estimates far more due to lack of reporting.

Obaid-Chinoy has also stated that the film is "a positive story about Pakistan on two accounts: firstly, it portrays how a Pakistani-British doctor comes to treat them and it also discusses, in great depth, the parliament’s decision to pass a bill on acid violence". Obaid-Chinoy has also said that the film assisted in the trial and conviction of one of the perpretrators of acid violence on a female victim.

PRODUCTION

Obaid-Chinoy chose the subject of acid violence after being contacted by Junge, who had already filmed portions of the documentary prior to their discussion. Obaid-Chinoy commented to the Wall Street Journal that "The subject matter immediately appealed to me: Acid violence impacts women in southern Punjab and changes the lives of hundreds of women each year." The documenters initially had some difficulty contacting and gaining the trust of the survivors in the film as well as connecting with the local community, but stated that "once we had spent a considerable amount of time on the ground and had established relationships, we did not experience any further obstacles.

Michel Hazanavicius' "The Artist" was named best picture at the 84th Academy Awards on Sunday.

It is the first essentially silent film to win best picture since "Wings" won at the first Oscar ceremony in 1929. Additionally, "The Artist" is the first black-and-white movie to win best picture since "Schindler's List" in 1994.

"The Artist" is a look at the early days of Hollywood starring Jean Dujardin as silent film star George Valentin and Berenice Bejo as the ordinary girl who becomes a silent film sensation. But perhaps the most notable member of the cast is Uggie, the Jack Russell Terrier who potrays Valentin's dog, Jack.
The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and quickly earned critical acclaim (including a Palm Dog award for Uggie).

It became a year-end critics' favorite, topping several year's-best lists, as well as winning the Critics' Choice Award for best picture. It also won top film awards from the Producers Guild of America, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts and best motion picture musical or comedy from the Golden Globes.

The film topped a field that included "The Descendants," "Hugo," "The Help," "Moneyball," "War Horse," "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close," "Midnight in Paris" and "The Tree of Life."

The Academy Awards took place in Hollywood and were televised live on ABC. They were presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts

FAVOURITE QUOTES AT THE 0SCARS 2012

“Next year this’ll be called the Flomax theater.” — Host Billy Crystal, referring to several elderly nominees this year, including Max von Sydow and Christopher Plummer.

“You’re only two years older than me, darling. Where have you been all my life?” — Christopher Plummer, on winning for best supporting actor for “Beginners.” At 82, he is the oldest Oscar winner in the 84-year history of the Academy Awards.

“When they said my name, I had this feeling I could hear half of America, ‘oh no, oh not her again,’ but whatever.”

“I really understand I’ll never be up here again. I see my life before my eyes.” — Meryl Streep, winning for best actress for “The Iron Lady,” her third Oscar in a record 17 nominations.

“A year ago today we were sitting in our editing room, depressed thinking nobody was ever going to see this movie and a friend said, “don’t worry, next year you’ll be at the Oscars” and we said, “you’re an idiot.” So we’d like to take this opportunity to apologize to him and say you’re a lot smarter than we thought.” — Dan Lindsay, on winning best documentary feature for “Undefeated.”

“At this time many Iranians all over the world are watching us and I imagine them to be very happy. They are happy not just because of an important award or a film or a filmmaker, but because at the time when talk of war, intimidation, and aggression is exchanged between politicians the name of their country, Iran, is spoken here through her glorious culture, a rich and ancient culture that has been hidden under the heavy dust of politics.” — Asghar Farhadi, director-writer-producer, on winning best foreign language film for “A Separation.”

“I was genuinely starstruck when I met Kermit the Frog. Like many stars here tonight, he’s a lot shorter in real life.” — Bret McKenzie, who won best original song for “Man or Muppet:”

“I just want to thank everybody who’s here tonight and everybody who isn’t and everybody who’s ever been born or may be born or be born again or reborn. If I’ve forgotten anybody then you probably know who you are.” — Philip Stockton, winning for sound editing for “Hugo.”

“I don’t have to wait for a wedding to tell the world how wonderful she is.” — Terry George, who won for best live action short “The Shore” with daughter Oorlagh George.

“My mother is here from Omaha. She made me promise that if I ever won another Oscar, I’d dedicate it to her just like Javier Bardem did with his mother.” — Alexander Payne, on winning best adapted screenplay for “The Descendants.”

“If George Valentine could speak, he’d say ‘wow! genial, formidable, merci’.” — French actor Jean Dujardin, winning for best actor for “The Artist,” referring to his character in the silent film.

“Let’s get out of here.” — Kirk Baxter, on winning achievement in film editing for “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.”
