DreamWorks acquired rights in 2010, and Melissa Mathison, who last teamed with Spielberg on “E.T.,” will pen the script. Frank Marshall will produce, with Michael Siegel and John Madden on board as executive producers. Madden was originally set to direct “The BFG” but is instead focusing on the sequel to “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.”
Spielberg will begin production in first quarter of 2015, with a planned 2016 release.
“’The BFG’ has enchanted families and their children for more than three decades. We are honored that the Roald Dahl estate has entrusted us with this classic story,” said Spielberg in a statement.
However, the busy helmer is likely to first direct the untitled Tom Hanks thriller for DreamWorks in September, with Tom Hanks starring in the true story of an American attorney enlisted by the CIA during the Cold War.
Prince dropped a new soulful tune, “The Breakdown,” on iTunes shortly before midnight on Friday. It could be “the saddest story ever been told.”
This is the first release through his new and improved partnership with Warner Bros. Records. Prince has returned to his “slave” label, as he once called it, after an almost two-decade-long dispute. The new global licensing partnership allows Warners to digitally remaster and reissue Prince’s albums from 1978 through the 1990s. “Purple Rain” will be the first record to get the deluxe reissue as it nears its 30th anniversary.
Prince will also be working on a new studio album.
At its height, his disputes with the label he signed with in 1992 were so intense that he changed his name to a symbol.
Simon Cowell is usually keen for acts to get off the stage as soon as possible on Britain's Got Talent.
But the TV mogul was so impressed by one act that he soon volunteered his services for a rather dangerous stunt in scenes from Saturday night's episode of the ITV1 show.
Knife thrower Edward Pinder, an 11-year-old circus performer, took to the stage for an act which saw him throwing sharp objects at his assistant/mother, Erika Pinder.
Dressed up on a cowboy costume, the school boy teamed a a checked shirt with cowboy boots and brown chaps.
He also sported the classic red bandana scarf and cowboy hat, as he wowed the crowds with his hair-raising audition.
As the judges watched on, Simon admitted he was tempted to join in on the fun.
Fellow judge Alesha Dixon was surprised by the 54-year-old's claim and was even more shocked when Simon went up onto the stage.
Simon said: ‘Can I just see if they’re real knives? Oh my god! Let’s just do two Edward okay?’
When David Walliams jokingly offered to take Edward's place as the knife thrower, Edward replied: 'No'.
As he began to regret his decision, Simon asked the young boy: ‘Edward, you’ve never auditioned for me have you?’
Edward get the show supremo a close shave with a flying blade which left the judges open-mouthed.
Simon admitted: 'I kind of felt my life going in front of me then', before Amanda Holden told Edward: 'You nearly killed Simon Cowell.'
David once again attempted to charm Edward as he said: ‘How much would we have to pay you to throw the knife just a little bit nearer to him?’
Lettice Rowbotham also impressed the judges - and the audience - with her electric violin and David Walliams told her: 'I think you might be the poshest contestant we've had on the show.'
The 24-year-old from Surrey's audition was just the tip of the iceberg with other impressive turns including a magic act and a singer.
Less impressive were a duo - Operadoo - who attempt to combine opera with didgeridoo playing.
The couple, from Kent, fall foul of Cowell who tells them: 'There are certain things that don't go well together. It's like sticking a bowl of strawberry ice cream with a sausage.'
Britain's Got Talent returns to ITV1 on Saturday night 19 April at 7pm.
Cameron Russell is the type of person that most people envy – even supermodels. She used to be one of the highest paid models in the world, and has done countless fashion campaigns for the likes of Victoria’s Secret and more. She recently gave a Ted Talk titled “Looks aren’t everything. Believe me, I’m a model.” Her speech pissed off many people in the fashion industry. Hear what she said that turned more than a few heads. Do you agree?
He may have written the happiest song of the year, but Pharrell Williams was reduced to tears during his interview with Oprah Winfrey. The Happy singer sat down with the talk show host for an upcoming episode of Oprah Prime on her OWN Network, and was moved by a video shown to him of people dancing to his chart-topping song. ‘Why am I crying on Oprah?’ Pharrell said through tears as he was overcome with emotion.‘It’s overwhelming because I love what I do and I just appreciate the fact that people have believed in me for so long that I could make it to this point, and feel, to feel that.’
With some encouraging words from Oprah, Pharrell, 41, was also shown some pictures from his childhood. During the interview, Williams – wearing one of his many distinctive Vivienne Westwood hats - discussed his rise to fame, his song-writing process and the music that influenced him to become a seven-time Grammy winning recording artist and producer.
‘My best songs come from two different ways,’ he says. ‘Either when I have a really good gut feeling about something, it's written in the shower or on a plane.’ ‘Shower's good, isn't it?’ Oprah says. ‘There's something about the water.’ ‘The water attracts your ear,’ he says. ‘You get distracted, and your mind wanders.’ But for his Despicable Me 2 song, Pharrell called it a ‘crazy, half-court shot.’
‘It's not because you're that good,’ Williams says. ‘It's because you're out of ideas.' The interview also saw Pharrell talk about his critically-acclaimed new album ‘G I R L’, and his wedding last year to model and designer Helen Lasichanh.
But over the weekend, he was in Indio, California to perform at Coachella 2014, where he reminded the audience of just how many hit songs he’s been behind.
P Coachella 1by YardieGoalsHe brought out Nelly for Hot In Herre, Snoop Dogg for Drop It Like It’s Hot, Gwen Stefani for Hollaback Girl, and Busta Rhymes for Pass The Courvoisier. Some of the tracks were produced by Williams and Chad Hugo who made up the record production duo The Neptunes. But Pharrell wasn’t too happy with the dust and wind experienced at Coachella as he told the packed crowd, ‘I wanted this s*** to be so much hotter but the dust and this f***ing wind…,’ according to The Guardian.

Sources have revealed that due to the enormous success of the Scandal television series, Shonda Rhimes has planned a Scandal movie, which is tentatively set to be released in the spring of 2015. The film will feature Denzel Washington in the starring role as the Mayor of Atlanta.
Details are still cloudy about the film, but Kerry Washington is confirmed as a co-star alongside Denzel Washington (no relation). Shonda Rhimes sat down with Zay of www.MapeNation.com to discuss some of the ideas behind the film.
“Scandal has really gained a lot of loyal fans of the show,” she said. “I’m very proud to be able to provide a series that keeps people so glued to their television sets. So I wanted to take it to the next level. I wanted to bring Scandal to the big screen…and trust me, you haven’t seen anything yet.”
Some of the stars rumored to be appearing in the film include: Denzel and Kerry, Columbus Short, Tony Goldwyn, Guillermo Diaz, Tyler Perry, and Nene Leakes. Small appearances by some of the other cast members of Housewives of Atlanta cast are also expected.
When asked for a teaser about the plot, Shonda revealed, “I can’t say too much, but Olivia Pope finally leaves DC for a new start. She ends up working as crisis management for the Mayor of Atlanta (Denzel Washington) and that’s when things get hairy.”
Apparently, Shonda Rhimes, writer of Scandal and other known hit series such Grey’s Anatomy, wants to create the ultimate drama film. Denzel Washington also appears to be excited about that project. “I’ve been watching the series and I’m really proud of Ms. Washington for all the success she’s having,” Denzel said. “I want to offer my talents to such an amazing story. I think it will be well received.”
Filming will begin after Washington, who is currently pregnant, births her child and recovers.
The interest in this film is sure to skyrocket, considering the success the show has seen. Every Thursday, fans are glued to their television sets to watch the drama of Olivia Pope unfold. If the show goes to the next level as Shonda promised, I’m sure it’s going to set box office records and make a lot of people happy.
Atlanta — Legendary singer Patti Labelle arrested and charged with assault and battery after attacking Aretha Franklin.
The singers were in Atlanta for an R&B/Soul concert on March 20th when they ran into each other backstage. Labelle was still fuming from a recent run-in with Franklin at the White House for the “Women of Soul” concert. While Aretha Franklin was making her way to the stage, Labelle extended her hand to greet the “Respect” singer, when she threw epic shade in an effort to avoid her. The two exchanged obscenities after the event and parted ways.
While at the concert in Atlanta, Labelle attempted to approach Franklin to resolve their outstanding issues, but Franklin once again turned up her nose. Onlookers say Labelle quickly removed her wig and earrings as she approached Franklin. Aretha, knowing that the removal of earrings is a tell-tale sign that a fight is about to ensue, attempted to prepare herself for the confrontation. Franklin was quickly struck with a Mayweather style right and left and stumbled backwards, landing awkwardly. Bystanders subdued Labelle and escorted her outside of the venue. Franklin suffered only minor injuries.
Labelle was quickly apprehended by the Atlanta Police Department and charged with assault and battery. She was released on a $10,000 bail and will appear in court on April 16th.
