Neighbours congratulates EastEnders on 30 years in amusing sketch

As Eastenders Live continues with the ' Who Killed Lucy ' storyline Neighbours congratulates Eastenders in a hilarious spoof sketch

Neighbours has congratulated the team at EastEnders as the BBC soap celebrates its 30th anniversary today (February 19).

The cast of the Australian series decided to mark the special occasion by filming an amusing sketch showcasing their range of cockney accents.

Jackie Woodburne, Alan Fletcher, Colette Mann, Morgana O'Reilly, Stefan Dennis, Kate Kendall and Olympia Valance all played a part in the EastErinsborough sketch, which saw their characters re-enact some of the most classic EastEnders moments.

After Ramsay Street's Susan Kennedy slips on some milk once again, she wakes up in the middle of an episode of the London soap and encounters a rather different looking Paul Robinson, who claims to be Phil Mitchell.

Later, she witnesses a row between Paige Smith and Naomi Canning, in which Naomi shouts that she is Paige's mother - a nod to the famous scene between Kat and Zoe Slater.

Sheila Canning pays homage to Peggy Mitchell by using her memorable line "get out of my pub", and Karl Kennedy acts out a famous scene involving Den and Angie Watts when he delivers Susan divorce papers.

Neighbours series producer Jason Herbison said: "Thirty years is a long time in television and we know how much blood, sweat and tears, as well as a lot of love and laughs, goes into producing serial drama, so well done EastEnders.

"Our cast had a fantastic time paying homage to some memorable Walford moments in the sketch. And I couldn't miss the opportunity to have Colette scream, 'Get out of me pub'."

This is not the first time that soap rivalry has taken a backseat in recent weeks as Coronation Street and Hollyoaks also sent good luck messages to the EastEnders team as they prepared to go live.

Adam Woodyatt also won strong praise last month when he paid a moving tribute to late Coronation Street actress Anne Kirkbride at the National Television Awards.

Neighbours is also celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, with several past characters returning for the milestone.

EastEnders star John Bardon, who played Jim Branning in the hit BBC1 soap, has died aged 75 after a period of ill health.
The show's press team announced the sad news via a blog post, in which they paid tribute to the talented actor.
"It is with great sadness that we report the death of much-loved actor John Bardon, who played Dot's husband, Jim Branning, from 1996 to 2011. He was 75," it said.
"Everyone at EastEnders is absolutely heartbroken to learn that John has sadly passed away. His bravery, dignity and courage in battling against the devastating effects of his stroke were admired by all who had the privilege of working with him.
"Loved by us all, John was an exceptionally talented actor whose humour, mischievousness and brilliant performances made Jim Branning one of Walford's most loveable, memorable characters and we will miss John forever.
"Our love and deepest sympathies are extended to Enda, his truly wonderful wife, at this very sad time. May he now rest in peace."
It added that tonight's episode to EastEnders will be dedicated to John, who will be "sorely missed by all those who knew and worked with him".

John first made his appearance as Jim in 1996 before returning as a full-time character in 1999. The much-loved Jim went on to fall in love and  marry Dot Cotton in 2002.
But in 2007 John suffered a serious stroke that hospitalised him, and it took six months for him to relearn how to walk. He was due to return to the Square in summer 2008 but poor health forced him to postpone his plans. Eventually he came back to the soap in 2011 and filmed his last scenes as Jim waiting to go into a nursing home.
June Brown, who played his onscreen wife Dot, said: "I am so sorry that John has passed away but hope that he is now at peace after seven difficult years.
"I shall miss him very much as I loved him dearly. My thoughts are with his devoted wife, Enda."
Natalie Cassidy, who plays Sonia, also paid tribute to the late actor, saying: "I never had a real granddad so John was like an actual granddad to me. He was a lovely man and I learnt a lot from him."
As well as making a name for himself as Dot's husband on the show, John also starred in Rumpole of the Bailey, Only Fools and Horses and Dad's Army. He won the Laurence Olivier Award in 1988 for his work in the stage musical Kiss Me, Kate.
Our thoughts are with John's family and friends.

Eastenders’ Who Killed Lucy Beale trailer is brilliant but it will also give you nightmares

Eastenders has unveiled a terrifying trailer to kick off the hunt for Lucy Beale’s killer.
Every single Albert Square resident looked like a sinister killer in the brief clip, which also highlighted a few prime suspects.

Denise, Ian, Lauren, Max, Jane and Peter all pop up seeming to get rid of evidence which could connect them to Lucy’s death.
What is really creepy though is the slow, unexpected way each character’s eyes swivel to look directly into the camera as though you’ve caught them in the act. Spooky.

Other characters, including Mick, Sharon, and even Dot, are then seen standing outside the Queen Vic, serving as a reminder that Lucy’s murderer really could be anyone.
