BREAKING NEWS : POP STAR STEVE STRANGE DIES

Steve Strange, Visage lead singer, dies aged 55

Courtesy of http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-31449838

Steve Strange, lead singer of 1980s pop band Visage, has died aged 55 following a heart attack, his record label says.

Strange, whose real name was Steven Harrington, died in hospital in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.

The Welsh pop singer - whose best known hit with Visage was Fade To Grey - died in his sleep of heart failure.

Marc Green, August Day Recordings label manager, said his "family, band members and friends are all distraught at this sudden news of his untimely death.

Strange, a New Romantic pioneer, was born in Newbridge, Monmouthshire, and got involved in music after seeing the Sex Pistols in concert in 1976.

He went to London aged 15 to work for Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McClaren before setting up the Blitz Club in Soho, central London, which would become a focal point for the New Romantic movement.

Bands including Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet and Culture Club all got their start at the club before finding stardom.

SPACE ODDITY VIDEO

Space Oddity video by Astronaut Col. Chris Hadfield performing Major Tom to be taken down

If you're not among the millions who've been amazed by astronaut Col. Chris Hadfield's performance of "Major Tom," filmed aboard the Space Station, now's your chance. Because of a rights issue, they're taking it down TONIGHT.

One year ago today Chris Hadfield released his version of David Bowie’s classic ‘Space Oddity’ on board the International Space Station. He only had permission to have this video up for a year, so after today its GONE FOREVER! (Doubt it, once its on the internet, its there forever) But JUST IN CASE! If you haven't seen the video... here it is -Brittany

International Space Station Commander, Chris Hadfield, performs a revised version of David Bowies Space Oddity. Seen in this video is the Larrivée Parlor guitar that has found it's home on the ISS for the last decade. Chris has used this Parlor, the first acoustic guitar in space, to write and record the first complete set of recordings and music video in space. Here at Larrivée we refer to Chris as "The Space Cowboy".
A revised version of David Bowie's Space Oddity, recorded by Commander Chris Hadfield on board the International Space Station.

With thanks to Emm Gryner, Joe Corcoran, Andrew Tidby and Evan Hadfield for all their hard work.

14 HITS THAT WERE ALMOST SUNG BY SOMEONE ELSE

14 Hits That Were Almost Sung By Someone Else

Just try to imagine a world in which “…Baby One More Time” is a TLC song.

Courtesy of posted on  http://www.buzzfeed.com/perpetua/hits-that-were-almost-sung-by-someone-else

1. Lady Gaga wrote “Telephone” for Britney Spears, but Britney rejected it. Gaga later recorded it with Beyoncé and it was a huge hit.

2. Whitney Houston’s “How Will I Know” was originally intended for Janet Jackson.

3. Most people assume Justin Timberlake’s “Rock Your Body” was just a homage to classic Michael Jackson, but The Neptunes actually wrote the music for Jackson’s final album, Invincible.

4. Giorgio Moroder originally wanted “Call Me” to be a collaboration with Stevie Nicks, but when she was not available, he instead finished the song with Blondie, and it became a No. 1 hit.

5. “…Baby One More Time” was rejected by TLC, but Max Martin ended up giving the song to Britney Spears.

6. Leona Lewis was originally intended to sing “We Found Love” and recorded a demo, but the song ended up going to Rihanna instead.

7. David Bowie gave “Golden Years” to Elvis Presley, but since Presley declined to record it, it ended up on Bowie’s 1976 classic Station to Station.

8. Rihanna’s “Umbrella” was written by The-Dream and Tricky Stewart with Britney Spears in mind, but her label rejected it.

9. Bruce Springsteen wrote “Hungry Heart” for The Ramones, but his producer and manager Jon Landeau convinced him to keep it for himself. It ended up becoming Springsteen’s first major chart hit.

10. “Toxic” was originally offered to Kylie Minogue, but it eventually became a big hit for Britney Spears instead.

11. Paul McCartney wanted Tom Jones to record “The Long and Winding Road” as a single in 1968, but that didn’t work out, and he recorded it with The Beatles instead.

12. Chris Brown co-wrote and recorded “Disturbia,” but ended up deciding the song was better for a female singer and passed it on to Rihanna.

13. The Neptunes originally developed the beat for “I’m A Slave 4 U” for Janet Jackson, but after she rejected it, it went to Britney Spears instead.

14. Donna Summer wrote “Dim All the Lights” for Rod Stewart, but she ultimately decided to keep the song for herself, and it became one of her signature hits.
