A choir of Games Makers formed during the London 2012 Olympic Games is making a bid for the Christmas No.1 single this holiday season. The track had its worldwide exclusive radio airplay on The Chris Evans Breakfast
Show on Friday 7th December

Boris is backing us

The group, who recently signed to Decca, the label behind last year’s Christmas No. 1, have the backing of gold medal winning Olympians and Paralympians and now London Mayor Boris Johnson has thrown his support behind the cause saying, “This song is a great tribute to those feelings of pride, inspiration and goodwill that spread throughout London and the rest of the country during the 2012 Games. I wish everyone involved the best of luck in their efforts in keeping the Olympic spirit alive.
Katherine Grainger – signed up to sing
The song, which will feature in BBC Sports Personality of the Year’s coverage, has also garnered support from Sports Personality nominee and gold medal winning rower Katherine Grainger who has pledged her support for the Games Makers and has even offered to provide vocals on the track. “What a great song. It captures all the excitement and joy and feelings of friendship and partnership that were the spirit of the Games. It helps not only to maintain all the enthusiasm but also to build on it, so that the legacy really can be strong. Sing on!
Amazing support from former Olympics Minister
MP and former Olympics Minister Dame Tessa Jowell has been pivotal in getting the venture off the ground and praised the volunteers saying ‘So much is owed to the Games Makers for the success of London 2012. Their drive, commitment and energy remain so inspiring and, through this great single, they are helping to keep alive the Olympic spirit that swept across the country’
The song has become a genuine contender for Christmas No.1, ‘I Wish For You The World’ looks set to round off an incredible year for Britain and the volunteers.
Keeping the Olympic Spirit alive
Choir founder and Director Victoria Verbi said, “We pulled together to help put on the Olympics and the choir is our way of keeping the Olympic legacy and spirit going.”

‘I Wish for You the World’ will be a charity record with proceeds from the single being donated to the British Olympic Foundation and British ParalympicAssociation to be used to develop and create opportunities for aspiring young people in pursuit of obtaining their Olympic and Paralympic dreams.

The idea and the sentiment of the song is about giving something back and everyone involved in the inspiring and emotive single hopes that “I Wish ForYou The World” will keep the Olympic spirit alive for all.

Alistair Griffin writes another great sporting anthem…..inspired
Griffin, who recently penned the sound track to Sky Sports flagship Formula 1 coverage and numerous other sporting anthems, said ‘I wrote the song after being so affected by the Olympics to reflect the amazing year we’ve had as a nation and when I heard the Games Makers choir I knew they had to sing it. They’re the people who made the Games and this is the people’s song”

The Games Maker Choir is a newly formed and rapidly expanding choir formed of some of the 70,000 Games Makers who volunteered at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The choir is directed by university student Victoria Verbi. Victoria, following a passing comment from a family member about how much fun it would be to have an Olympic choir, decided to try going about setting up a choir in the Olympic Park, during the Olympics Games. Within 2 days of putting a notice about the choir in the Games Maker newsletter, more than 200 Games Makers had put their names down to perform. Following one brief rehearsal the choir performed at the Bandstand in the Olympic Park and subsequently on numerous BBC radio shows. It was a massive success.

The choir was also asked by LOCOG to sing at the "Our Greatest Team" Athletes' Parade where the crowd at the athletes joined in with "Maybe its because I'm a Londoner" and "Consider Yourself" amongst other favourites.

The choir is an embodiment of the spirit of the Games Makers and this joyous occasion that was the Games. It reflects on the team spirit, excitement and unity that captured imagination of the country during the games, and the Games Makers in particular. Importantly too, Victoria and the Choir have shown that you really can achieve what you set your mind to. The Games Maker Choir intends to provide the Games Makers and the country with one way of keeping the Olympic legacy going.

There is no specific requirement to join the choir apart from having to have been a Games Maker in your now familiar purple and poppy red uniform at either the Paralympic or Olympic Games.

The Games Maker Choir will be rehearsing and performing in the very near future, So keep an eye on our Facebook page for more information.

If you would like to join the Choir more information can also be found on our Facebook page.

If you would like the choir to perform at an event, whether it be charity, sporting etc, please contact gamesmakerchoir@gmail.com  putting "PERFORMANCE REQUEST" as the subject.
