Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson / Deadpool:
A wisecracking mercenary with accelerated healing but severe scarring over his body after undergoing an experimental regenerative mutation.^[3] He forms the X-Force, a team of mutants

Josh Brolin as Nathan Summers / Cable:
A time travelling cybernetic mutant soldier, "in many ways the opposite of Deadpool".^[4] Director David Leitch called the dynamic between Cable and Deadpool "sort of classic buddy-cop fare", and compared them to the characters portrayed by Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy, respectively, in 48 Hrs. (1982).^[5] Brolin signed a four-film deal to play the character,^[4] and described his appearance here as just the introduction for the character, with "three more movies to reveal more."

A teenage X-Man with the mutant power to detonate atomic bursts from her body,^[14] she is now a "new level of X-Men" after being a trainee in the first film.^[15] Hildebrand felt that "it's cool that she's grown and matured and she still has so much of this essence of a punk kid" from the first film, and added that the character would have a "cooler" costume in the sequel

An X-Man with the mutant ability to transform his entire body into organic steel.^[14] Kapičić described Colossus as one of the most important characters in the film, requiring a more intense process for Kapičić during recording for the character. He explained that Colossus would continue to try make Deadpool a better person and potential X-Man after doing so in the first film

Production

The project was first announced on February 26, 2015, when a third Robin Hood script was announced written by Joby Harold, which Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way would produce.^[1] There were two scripts already in the works: one at Disney titled Nottingham & Hood and another at Sony titled Hood.^[1] This script was expected to be taken by Sony to merge it with its other project.^[1] Lionsgate acquired the distribution rights to the film on March 19, 2015.^[2] On June 4, 2015, Lionsgate set Otto Bathurst to direct the film, which DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson Killoran of Appian Way would produce along with Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures.^[3] On July 31, 2015, Deadline.com revealed that several actors were circling for the lead role, including Taron Egerton, Jack Huston, Jack Reynor, and Dylan O'Brien.^[4] Basil Iwanyk would also produce the film through his Thunder Road Pictures.^[4] Later on August 6, 2015, it was reported that Egerton was at the top of the list for the lead role and he was in early talks with the studio; however, it was predicted that he might not sign on to star in the film because of scheduling issues with the sequel to Kingsman: The Secret Service.^[5] On September 30, 2015, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Egerton had signed on for the film franchise, with shooting to begin in February 2016, but then he was in conflict with the Kingsman sequel, which was scheduled to begin production in April.^[6] Later in mid-October, it was confirmed that the scheduling issues had been settled between both studios and that Liongate would now begin Robin Hood's production right after Egerton wrapped on Kingsman, likely in the end of summer.^[7]On October 15, 2015, Eve Hewson was chosen for the role of Maid Marian from 100 actresses.^[8]

On January 11, 2016, it was announced that Jamie Foxx had been cast in the film to play the role of Little John, the leader of outlaws group Merry Men.^[9] On September 19, 2016, it was reported that Jamie Dornan had joined the film's cast to play Will Scarlet, half brother of Hood, member of Merry Men, and husband of Marian.^[10] In November 2016, film's title was announced to be Robin Hood,with Paul Anderson cast for an unspecified role, which might be a darkly toned character.^[11] On December 13, it was reported that Ben Mendelsohn had been cast in the film as the Sheriff of Nottingham.^[12] On February 14, 2017, it was announced that Tim Minchinhad been cast as Friar Tuck.^[13]

Filming

Filming began on February 20, 2017 at different locations in Dubrovnik, Croatia^[14][15], and in Le Raincy, France.^[16], but was mostly shot in Budapest, Hungary.^[17] Filming concluded on May 19th.^[18]

Premise

Set between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, Scott Lang, now under house arrest after the events of Civil War,^[1] tries to balance his home life as a father with his responsibilities as Ant-Man, when Hope van Dyne and Hank Pym present him with a new mission to bring to light secrets from their past, teaming up with Van Dyne as the new Wasp.

Cast

Paul Rudd as Scott Lang / Ant-Man:
A former petty criminal who acquired a suit that allows him to shrink or grow in scale while also increasing in strength.^[3] Following the events of Captain America: Civil War, in which Lang escapes from the Raft prison, director Peyton Reed said that "he’s a fugitive in most of the first Ant-Man movie. He’s just a bigger fugitive now."

Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne / Wasp:
The daughter of Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne, who is bequeathed a similar suit and the Wasp mantle from her mother.^[3] The writers were "so excited about now being able to show [Hope] fully formed and what she is as a superhero. Her power set, how she fights, and what are the injustices that matter to her that she wants to right. That's part of the really fun thing of the [film]."

Michael Peña as Luis:
Lang's former cellmate and a member of his crew. Peña said that there was less opportunity for improvisation with his character compared to Ant-Man.

Walton Goggins as Sonny Burch: A "low-level criminal-type".

Bobby Cannavale as Paxton: A San Francisco Police Department officer who is engaged to Lang's ex-wife Maggie.

Judy Greer as Maggie: Lang's ex-wife.

Tip "T.I." Harris as Dave: A member of Lang's crew

David Dastmalchian as Kurt: A member of Lang's crew.

Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost:
A criminal with the ability to phase through objects. The character is traditionally portrayed as male in the comics, but was made to be female for the film because the creative team believed that the character's gender was irrelevant to its portrayal, and felt it would be more interesting to cast a woman in the role.

Abby Ryder Fortson as Cassie: The daughter of Lang and Maggie.

Randall Park as Jimmy Woo: A S.H.I.E.L.D. agent.

Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne: The wife of Pym, mother of Hope, and the original Wasp. She was lost in the Quantum Realmyears ago during a mission with Pym.

Laurence Fishburne as Bill Foster:
An old friend of Pym's who was once his assistant.^[12][14] Fishburne had approached Marvel about joining the MCU, pitching them a few ideas for who he could portray, before Marvel offered him the role of Foster in the film.^[14] Despite having already portrayed Perry White for the DC Extended Universe, Fishburne admitted that he had always fantasized about being in an MCU film, admitting that he considered himself a "Marvel guy".

Michael Douglas as Hank Pym:

A former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, entomologist, and physicist who became the original Ant-Man in 1963 after discovering the subatomic particles that make the transformation possible.

Additionally, Ant-Man and Wasp co-creator Stan Lee has a cameo in the film
